The Company

Founded in 1973, TASA (Tecnológica de Alimentos S.A.) is one of Peru’s leading fishing companies and one of the world’s largest producers of fishmeal and fish oil. The company operates an integrated business model that spans fishing, processing, and the commercialization of seafood products, serving both domestic and international markets. Committed to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence, TASA continues to advance its digital transformation by optimizing production processes, strengthening operational traceability, and improving efficiency across its value chain. The company continuously invests in modernizing its digital platforms and technologies to support a more sustainable, data-driven business model.

The Challenge

Anchoveta fish school detection relied on multiple third-party software tools and the manual analysis of only 10% of the data generated by onboard echosounders. The sheer volume of information made it inefficient to process data while vessels were at sea, meaning complete analysis could only be performed once they returned to port, delaying decision-making and reducing operational efficiency.

The Solution

We designed and implemented an artificial intelligence platform capable of processing raw sonar images generated by marine echosounders to create echograms and automatically identify the location and characteristics of fish schools. The solution integrates secure data transmission to Azure, centralized processing, real-time visualization, advanced filtering, and role-based user management, providing a scalable platform for data-driven decision-making.

Benefits

  • Automatic fish school detection powered by artificial intelligence.
  • Real-time data processing and visualization.
  • Centralized and scalable platform built on Microsoft Azure.
  • Reduced navigation time and fuel consumption.
  • Lower carbon footprint and reduced bycatch.
