INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY IN FISHING THROUGH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

THE COMPANY

Founded in 2002, TASA is a leading Peruvian fishing company in the production of high-quality, value-added marine ingredients and foods that operate in harmony with the community and the environment. Belonging to the Breca Group, a diversified business conglomerate with over 130 years of history and operations in Peru, Chile, and Brazil, it is the world's largest producer and exporter of fishmeal and fish oil and one of the main suppliers of refined fish oil and Omega 3 concentrated fish oil.

THE CHALLENGE

Consolidating its commitment to sustainability, ocean conservation, and the environment, TASA sought to innovate its anchovy fishing process by incorporating Artificial Intelligence to optimize trips and prevent the capture of other species.

THE SOLUTION

In close collaboration with TASA, we developed a tool that, using marine echosounders, processes and interprets raw images to create a detailed echogram. Thanks to advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms, this tool can determine the precise location and characteristics of anchovy shoals to optimize trip planning.

BENEFITS

  • Decreased navigation time and time spent by fishermen at sea.
  • Improved fishing projections for commercial decision-making.
  • Cost savings due to reduced fuel consumption.
  • Reduced carbon footprint and decreased capture of other marine species.
